Cookies
Since May 2011, websites have to notify users if there site uses cookies, I use cookies for functionality rather than tracking users, and are thus exempt from the EU cookie directive. However as a courtesy, these are the cookies I use and why.
- Device - A cookie is used to store whether you are using a PC, Mobile or Tablet. This is then stored to improve the efficiency of the website by not checking on every page load. If you change mode, e.g. from mobile to desktop, your choice is stored with you to save you having to change it on every page.
- Session - If you are logged in to the client area, a session is made to authenticate who you are and that you're authorized to be logged in.
- Third Parties - To help provide anonymous insight on how users use the site to help improve it, I use third parties such as Google Analytics. Any cookies these set are unfortunately out of my control.
- Cookie Banner - Somewhat ironic! A cookie is used to hide the banner, so it isn't always being displayed.
If you are uncomfortable with using cookies then you can disable them in your browser options or by using a privacy mode.
